Senior integrated communications counsel, backed by a new kind of expert bench.
GCYM Group is a senior-led communications advisory built for complex, business-to-business environments where clarity, trust, and judgment matter. We believe that speed without chaos is a competitive advantage.
The reality is this: you, your team, and your consultants are already using AI. The difference isn’t whether AI is used, but whether it’s used deliberately, transparently, and in service of better thinking.
GCYM Group uses AI on purpose. Synthetic experts are deployed to pressure-test strategy, surface insight, and accelerate execution. Human counsel remains fully accountable for decisions, execution, and outcomes.
Clients work directly with senior counsel through an unencumbered, proven process shaped by years of real-world experience. Strategy, execution, and judgment stay tightly aligned. The result is faster outcomes, clearer thinking, and fewer handoffs—delivering quick, thoughtful implementation without sacrificing rigor or range.
Matt Kelly, Principal of GCYM Group, has deep experience working in high-profile crisis management. These situations will not involve artificial intelligence but will draw from best-in-class experience in critical situations. Available selectively for limited engagements.
The GCYM Group Model
Client Experience
Logos represent organizations Matt Kelly worked with in previous agency and in-house roles. Shown for experience purposes only. Experience includes both corporate and consumer sectors.
-
Traditional agency models are layered, process-heavy, and slow. In fast-moving business-to-business environments, that friction creates risk. Decisions stall. Context gets lost. Momentum fades.
GCYM Group was built in response to that reality. The model is forged from years of experience inside complex organizations where reputation, internal alignment, and timing matter. It removes unnecessary process while preserving rigor, judgment, and accountability.
Because GCYM Group operates as an engaged but independent partner, work is guided by an unencumbered process instead of being buried in internal meetings, politics, or legacy workflows. That distance creates focus. Focus enables quicker, more thoughtful implementation. And quicker, well-judged implementation leads to stronger outcomes in fast-moving B2B environments.
-
GCYM Group is most often engaged to help leaders:
Clarify narrative in moments of change, growth, or scrutiny
Align internal and external messaging
Pressure-test strategy using synthetic audiences
Deliver high-stakes communications with speed and discipline
Teach internal teams how to build communications programs across internal and external channels that senior leaders see as delivering obvious value
Clients work with GCYM Group when they need experienced judgment, fast execution, and clear ownership, without agency bloat.
-
One accountable lead. No telephone game.
In traditional agency models, work moves through layers and process for process’s sake. Direction is relayed. Interpretation creeps in. Feedback cycles multiply. Speed slows. Accountability blurs.
GCYM Group operates differently. You work directly with Matt Kelly, your senior integrated communications counsel and single point of accountability. Every brief, idea, revision, and decision runs through one experienced advisor who owns the outcome end to end.
Behind that relationship sits a permanent expert bench, purpose-built to support modern communications work.
-
Clients do not hire agencies for org charts. They hire them for judgment, clarity, and fast, reliable follow-through.
This model works because:
Trust lives in a single senior relationship
Strategy and execution stay aligned from start to finish
Feedback loops are tighter and more productive
Institutional knowledge compounds instead of resetting
The bench never disappears. The context never gets lost. The work keeps moving.
-
GCYM Group works with organizations and leaders who want:
Senior counsel without agency bloat
Clear accountability and decision-making
Faster iteration without cutting corners
Work that challenges assumptions and lands cleanly
This model is built for complex, business-to-business organizations navigating change, scrutiny, growth, and the need to act decisively.
-
The GCYM Group synthetic expert bench spans the core disciplines clients expect from a top-tier communications partner, including:
Communications strategy and narrative development
Executive and internal communications
Digital, social, and channel strategy
Creative direction and visual storytelling
Issues management and crisis response
Analytics, measurement, and insight
Each discipline is activated as needed and guided by senior human judgment before anything reaches the client. You get integrated thinking without the overhead, internal politics, or fragmented ownership that slow traditional agencies down.
This model is further strengthened by a senior advisory group of experienced leaders with backgrounds at firms such as Burson, Ogilvy, Golin, FCB, DDB, and Brunswick Group.
-
Brand manifestos and TV spots are no longer the foundation of effective marketing communications campaigns.
If your goal is to win at Cannes, you’re doing it wrong.
Ideas that work are build with the audience’s whole life in mind. What media do they consume? What path do they take to work? How do your employees talk about your leadership and about each other? What do your detractors think, and how will your messages resonate with them?
Agencies need more than extra hands. They need senior judgment in the room from someone willing to put themselves in the shoes of the client’s target audience.
GCYM Group partners with agencies and in-house teams to help shape, sharpen, and activate ideas at every stage of the process. From responding to RFPs to presenting final concepts, I work alongside creative, strategy, and client teams to turn ambition into executable work.
Making Ideas Actionable
An idea is only as good as its execution plan. I support teams in thinking through:Content frameworks and channel mix
Influencer and community partnerships
Paid strategy across out-of-home, digital, and programmatic
Internal alignment and production realities
Extensions on existing ideas that make them even better and more worthy of attention.
Reframing creative from something you tell people in one channel, to something you show people in all areas of their lives.
The goal is not just to win the pitch. It is to make the work deliverable.
Philosophy
Broad ideas are usually bad ideas.
My approach to creativity is ethnographic and native. I believe in immersing in the audience’s world until the insight becomes obvious. In older advertising language, you were told to “eat the dog food.” I still believe in that principle. If we cannot understand the product, the pressure, the culture, and the lived experience of the audience, we are guessing. You may have heard of this as Design Thinking.
Curiosity drives the process. My training at The Second City sharpened the discipline of listening, observing, and building on what is actually there rather than forcing what we wish were true. Creativity is not performance. It is pattern recognition under pressure.
How It Works
I can join for a focused sprint around a single RFP or campaign, or integrate into a broader team over time. Sometimes I am the external voice in the room. Sometimes I am the quiet editor behind the scenes. In every case, the role is the same: reduce uncertainty, elevate the thinking, and help the team land the work with confidence.
Creative partnership is not about replacing the agency team. It is about strengthening it when the stakes are high.
For example: I’ve used experience as a competitive eater to consume all the foods a global restaurant chain sells … during a pitch to them. I’ve flown to Hollywood to write jokes for a brand attempting to reply to as many social media posts as possible in a 24-hour marathon. I’ve changed the way a corporation views sustainability goals by shifting from a PDF release to a live stream launch with influencers people actually care about. Sometimes, I just take what you’ve already thought of and make it work as a real campaign.
Great ideas are actionable. Actionable ideas are scope-able. Scope-able ideas drive revenue and meaningful outcomes.

Testimonials from Leaders Who’ve Worked with Matt Kelly, Principal of GCYM Group LLC
Gary Goldhammer
PwC AI Engineering & Emerging Technology R&D, author
“I worked closely with Matt at Burson and saw firsthand his consistent high level creativity, strategy, and leadership. He is one of those rare species in our business -- someone with both IQ and EQ, a true professional but dare I say a better human.
Matt has a unique ability to understand how social media and digital channels actually function inside complex organizations, not just how they are supposed to work in theory. He brings strong creative instincts, sharp editorial judgment, and a deep understanding of how content, data, and culture come together to drive real engagement. He knows how to translate new technologies into real opportunities that clients can trust and act on.
All that makes Matt great. But it's not what makes him special.
With Matt, you get someone who is real. A genuine human who won't bullshit you. A person who cares about others more than himself.
Lots of people can "do the work." Matt does the work, far better than most. But it's his personality, his humility, his heart that puts him in a class all by himself.”
“I had the pleasure of working with Matt at Brunswick Group where we were both members of the Chicago Leadership Team. Matt embodies a unique blend of qualities that makes him not only a standout professional, but also an exceptional individual.
Matt possesses an unparalleled level of empathy that permeates every engagement he has. His ability to understand others' perspectives fostered inclusive and supportive interactions, where colleagues felt heard and valued.
Matt is also a master storyteller. He is funny, insightful and smart – a winning combination that captivated audiences (at all levels) no matter the topic. Whether conveying complex ideas or inspiring others with his vision, Matt has a knack for engaging and inspiring those around him…and making them laugh too!
Furthermore, Matt brings his whole self to work, embodying authenticity and passion in everything he does. His enthusiasm is contagious, motivating others to be their best selves. His commitment to continuous learning ensures he is staying ahead of trends (and in many cases, setting them) while also supporting growth and development of himself and others.
I am so grateful for Matt and feel lucky for having had the opportunity to work with him. Matt is an exceptional leader and an invaluable asset to any organization.”

“Matt Kelly is a true role model for people leaders. I was so fortunate to learn from him for four years, and benefit from his advocacy. Matt is both humble and confident. He gives his people the resources they need, while giving them the space to grow. He gives credit where it is due, but more importantly he shouts praise from the rooftops. His feedback is always timely, constructive and actionable.
The immense knowledge he brings to every project he embarks on is incredibly valuable. He is the person clients actively want on their team.
I would strongly recommend Matt to any person considering working with him.”
